I keep a spare in the garage also, because you never know.

I put my better half up in a hotel when the air went out. The most peaceful three days I've had in decades. Next time I need a break I'm flipping the breaker again.

Just how big is this window ac that you cant put it in a garden shed or garage? It is the size of VW bug or more like a bass tackle bag?

In the box it came in? Tapped up?
That said how often does the whole house AC go out? I would sell the thing rather than have it sitting around for years on the chance I might need it.
Dont be a pack rat mate. This. Ran the exact exercise a few years ago. Bought a window unit for ~$200, used it for less than a week and listed it on CL for $150 and they were on that deal like a duck on a junebug. $50 net to stay cool and keep the wife happy = heckuva deal.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading

I keep a couple of the 110V 5,000BTU units in the shop. After a hurricane and a loss of power over a large area for several weeks they are scarce as hen's teeth. Ive used them a couple of times but they were only $100/EA..
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Go full redneck and leave it in the window, i did same thing as you when my central went out and I left it in the window 2 foot from my recliner, now I have my very own personal ac on those brutal days and it seems to infuriate the wife.. win win she hasnt excepted the fact that we are just plain old white trash yet I reckon..

I have 3 I use at the rent houses when the air goes out at one of them. I put them on a shelf in garage. Is there some reason that doesnt work? My thoughts as well. I didnt think window units were perishable goods.

I have a window unit I bought at a pawn shop for $50. I was told about it from a good friend that is like an American Pickers guy. He knew I was looking for one and called me. It was basically a brand new unit the shop owner wanted to get rid of. He told me he was selling it for what he paid for it (was that true...not sure) but a brand new unit for $50 I couldnt turn it down. I used it for my truck I turned into a truck camper. But my truck camper had full ac!! Ok Im losing my train of thought...but what I would do...set up a nice decent sized tent in the backyard. Cut a hole in the side and insert widow ac unit. Now you have a backyard man cave to hang out with your buddies and drink beer.

I have one at my lake house, put it back in the box and keep it on a shelf in the garage. I've had it out a couple times. Seems to be fine. I've had it for 7-8 years. I would bet if I got it out tomorrow it would fire right up.
Thanks, Billy
