I don't believe the lake turns over at 85 degrees.. That is probably clutter or noise.

I thought fish would always be above the thermocline too, not below it.

Interesting thing, this is a smaller lake, maybe 300 acres, had a ton of boat traffic yesterday. There was a distinct thermocline prior to yesterday at 14 feet and now this. Fish were above the thermocline on Wednesday.

Not sure what time of day you took these screen shots (looks to be at night or early morning?), but in low light hours when water is warm you will get some crazy clutter on graphs. I've always assumed it was from algae or plankton blooms that occur in our lakes. I've talked to a few guys that know way more about marine electronics than me and they agree on that theory. If it is algae or plankton you could graph back over that area once the sun gets up good and it will be gone.
Lake turnover typically happens in the fall when the water starts to cool, but in order for it to turn over you have to have a thermocline set up first. Personally I haven't seen a thermocline on any of the lakes I fish, but I'm sure there is one set up somewhere. Usually after a turnover you will just see clutter in the water column from top to bottom. Also you can "USUALLY" smell it and see scum floating on the surface.

I was wondering too if this was just the water churned up from all the ski boats.

I would think if this was night time it is likely plankton/algae. Can I assume these images are from one of the Hideaway Lakes? I have been out there in the thick of the 4th or Memorial day and the churn never really cluttered up the lake, unless you were running through someones recent prop wash.

Yes, its Hideaway lake. No one else on lake when it was dark so its not prop wash. Its kinda crazy because as you go into a cove where its shallow, its not there. Its only where there is deeper water like 12 plus. You go into a 6 cove and it disappears. Just kinda interesting and the fishing sucked. No bites at all.

You have to stick to the third lake. Second lake only works in the spring . Do you fish the third lake much? Lot less traffic and better cover.

Certainly not a turnover. All the lakes will have stable stratification now. Most likely algae doing daily migration up and down responding to light intensity.

Wow, times have changed then. We typically only had 1 or 2 ski boats a day out there when we lived in Hideaway, but that was a little over 6 years ago. It always seemed like the second lake was where the teenagers had free range of the boats.
