Hey folks! I realize this is a Texas forum, and this happened up in Southern Illinois, but I had to share, because I love catching big pond bass. I also realize I was crappie fishing, but hey. There's a few bass in there, I think that qualifies for the bass forum. I've fished this pond my entire life, whenever I drive up to visit my grandfather, and never caught anything over 2 pounds. Definitely a welcome surprise to hook into a 5 and a half pounder! It just tells you that you never know what you're going to catch. I really do love that about fishing (and honestly don't understand people who don't enjoy fishing, but hey. To each their own).




Caught him while fishing for crappie, with a beetle spin (silver/smoke flake Yum grub). I shot a little video, and you can see my excitement and a jump or two it makes in the water. Don't you just love hearing the drag scream on a quality reel? Once again... I love fishing.



Had a really awesome day today, too. Caught about 80 bass between 1 and 3 pounds out on a creek! Hopefully I'll get something together soon for y'all, there. I hate editing those sorts of videos because there are just so many bass, and it's difficult to keep the video short.

That's a nice surprise. I was fishing a tournament years ago, I threw a top water and caught a crappie over three pounds.

Seriously? I'd sort of be disappointed if I was fishing a tournament and hooked into a fish that big and it ended up being a crappie, but I'd also be very excited. That's a trophy fish, by anyone's standards. I'm jealous.
