Just started blowing bilge fuses a few days ago. Blown 2 in the last few weeks. Couple of things are different. 1. Been tubing a lot with kids taking water over back deck 2. Pulled charger out of bilge area and charger was resting on back deck with rear compartment lid slightly open so water fell in, but I wouldn't think that would affect it. This one is interesting. Thoughts?

Pull the cartridge on pump and clean housing out. Most likely a little rock or piece of debris hanging it up which will trip breaker or fuse.

Check any connections in the wiring and re-splice. My 2007 Skeeter has those old "plug" together connectors and they eventually get loose and do a similar thing. I have started the slow process of replacing those connectors one at time when needed.

this is the type of connectors I am referencing - https://www.westmarine.com/buy/ancor--heat-shrink-snap-plugs--P003882396?recordNum=15

What ever you do; get it figured out fast. I sunk two Tritons on Lake Amistad in a storm and high winds; because they put both bilge pumps on the same breaker. One pump was clogged and the breaker would not allow the second pump to run. It is a major task to get a dealership to figure this out; but it is simple.
- 2 bilge pumps on a boat.
- One Automatic.
- One Manuel
- Two separate Breakers.
- One of the pumps on a switch by itself; "OR THEY DIDN'T FIX IT RIGHT'.......

A rocker arm that says AUTO in one direction and MANUEL in the other direction means it is on the same breaker even though it has two pumps. You have to have at least one pump running just to get into a safe cove to fix the other one. Carry a Bilge attached to a short 6' garden hose with gator clips to run as a spare when you get to a safe cove.

On the spare pump, you may want to wire a plug that will plug into a cigarette lighter receptacle. If your taking on a lot of water you may not be able to get to your batteries to clip the gator clips on, without swamping the back of boat from the extra weight at the back. I almost learned the hard way when one of my pump housings cracked.

May I ask, are you saying that this clogn or debris is causing the pump to have to labor more than it should therefore causing it to blow the fuse?

It's all about the position of the object that is inside the pump. The pump may run just fine for a while; but let the object work it's way around wedging or obstructing the turning of the impeller then is when the overload occurs and the breaker trips. Just dive in the back of the boat and take it apart to clean it out. Be kinda careful so you do not loose the piece of worm or pebble that is causing the problem. You do want to see the results of your efforts.

Pull the cartridge out and check it. I have had them freeze and break the inside of the housing. Couldn't tell anything was wrong from the outside.

Don't lose the o-ring. That makes for a fun fix on the water.

If you have the patience , wrap a screen around the pump to help prevent clogging from a leaf or other surprises . [Linked Image]
