When I put what I think is the receiver into the hitch there seems to be a pretty good gap that lets the receiver slide a little back and forth when I stop and take off. When I take off from a stop it slides out and hits pretty hard and scares the [censored] out of me. Any of you have that problem and what did you do to fix it? I dont want to weld that knee knocking son of a gun in. Any suggestions? Thanks

the receiver hitch is what's on your car/truck, the adapter is what slides into the receiver hitch, check the holes and pin for size and wear. also check to make sure the ball is tight and not sliding back and forth on the adapter. last (and what it sounds like to me hitting hard like you described), does the trailer have trailer brakes? is the tongue actuator sliding back and forth hitting hard? then again, it could be a combination of any of this. maybe a couple photos will help
p.s. check the receiver hitch itself too, make sure it's not loose and sliding back and forth

Get a receiver hitch sleeve. Tractor supply should carry them

If you have surge brakes check the level. You will probably have to bleed them at least. I just replaced the inner sleeve and a brake line on mine. They work like they are suppose to now. No slamming and brakes are doing there job. I got use to unhooking all but the coupler before backing boat in to back yard. I can't do that any more.

No breaks on trailer, it is the adapter that slides into the receiver. Maybe my pin is a little too small for the hole. I will check these things and see what I can do

Make sure the draw bar is fairly snug in the receiver slot, if not you may need a sleeve my 2007.5 Chevy 2500 came with the sleeve and someone thieved my hitch and sleeve I put a new Stow and go on there and it made a hell of a racket until I got a new sleeve,

I saw this and filed it away. Have not tried it, but it looks like it may help. It goes inside both the receiver and the hitch tube, and tightens up like lug nut/bolt:: https://rattlefreehitch.com/I just wish it had a torque spec or setting for the bolt (60 ft lbs? 90 ft lbs ?)

There are two different diameters of pins and there are two different size recievers.
Is your truck a newer 2500 or 3500 model?
A picture would probably help a lot.
