Several mornings in the last month I have launched at IDB state park and have been fishing topwater East of the dam along South shoreline with very limited success. I want to try a different spot in the morning and would really appreciate any thoughts on a different spot that I can get to in low light dawn without having to navigate too much timber.

I fish by myself, not a tournament angler, just enjoy being on the water as sun comes up looking for topwater bite.

I have a turquoise 20' Blue Wave CC with Honda OB. If you see me on RR wander by and say hi. I just started fishing Ray Rob in April, trying to learn the lake.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Start on the left side of Kate's point which is the main lake point and work your way up north on the west arm, 1/2 oz black yellow magic till the sun comes up , then go to the 1/4 oz bone colored one as the sun gets higher

Head across to Johnson Branch and fish the cuts across from the ramp. They are easy to navigate into, and fish bunch up in there close to that deep water.

Fish the coves on both ends of the marina.

Finally, try the flooded stuff around the big rocks and points near the Pond Creek Boat Ramp (easy run from Sanger If the ramp is still closed).

This should tell you something, if the hammer aint fishing shallow right now you may want to start out deep.

Thanks to everyone.

I caught a few dinks and watched 2 nice ones spit it out where David Welcher suggested , around Kate's point. Rest of the day threw crankbaits trying to get down 8 - 10 ft off points and flipped some flooded bushes but didn't get bit. I need to learn the main lake structure.

I will make note of everyone's suggestions and give them all a go eventually. Thanks again!

Also try Johnson Creek (creek where the State park is). I've done better on the south side of the cove and the back of the cove early morning.

Another spot to try is the next cove south of Johnson Creek. Can't remember what it is called. There is a row of telephone poles at the mouth. Start near othe mouth of the cove and work back towards the creek. I've done better on the north side of the creek.

Good luck.

there's about a half dozen good points in the IDB cove that should be easy to fish before light. the mouths of the 4 creeks east of jordan and west of pilot point all have good mainlake points.
