Fished the Dunlap river bottom this past Thursday. Was able to fish a couple of the deeper holes. Managed a couple of nice bass in the 2 to 3 pound range and a few nice sunnies in the 8 to 9 inch range. There are a few nice brush piles where the fish can hide along with some big boulders. Without any dock cover it will not be long until a lot of the fish will be gone/caught. I did see several large bass in the 8 to 10 pound range along with some huge carp. The water was clear. Spoke with several locals who said that the river is going down despite the rains and that by October some of the holes will go dry. The actual river bed will always have water. I also saw a few bank anglers and several other kayak anglers. It was a sad site. Wish the old Dunlap was back.

Side Note: According to some of the locals they have not heard any news on dam repairs or a confirmed time table on if or when the dam will ever be repaired. I did see a lot of homes with for sale signs on their lawns. Sad site indeed.

The closest thing to a time table is three years. That from GBRA and the Dunlap property owners. Now is the worst time to put a property up for sale. A big gamble for the buyer, but he could win big too.

I know of two deep holes on that lake. They both should keep water for a very long time to come. As for a time span for the dam repair I have heard 5 to 10 years.

Nice report Laker. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the Dunlap report...I would thin the Dam area would be the deepest water, but I would guess they have that roped off ?

Great report Curtis. I got a good feeling on the location of both of those holes! I was there yesterday (Friday early evening) and yes it is a sad site! Like you I sure miss Dunlap! violin

Side Note: I also saw several homes for sale along with a couple of condos! Hope Dunlap makes a comeback! hmmm

Great report LO. Glad you had some success on Dunlap Jr. I bet it is a sad sight to see in some places.

Unless the holes you mention are landlocked from the river channel I don't know why they would go down. The Guad and the Comal will keep feeding the lake. The flood gate that fell out was about 8 foot tall. So what you have right now, I would think, is Dunlap that is 8 feet low.

Agree that it shouldn't drop any further as long as some flow continues on the river below Canyon.
As for the fish not having cover, that problem should heal itself in a short while with new vegetation growth along the banks, as long as the property owners don't get out there and go crazy with the chainsaws and loppers.

Just one more cast!

Right now the deep holes I was fishing are not land locked and both seem to have good flows from the actual river bottom. Makes since doctorxring and Jimbo on what you are saying. Time will tell. noidea Vogey: The main area around the dam is totally off limits! eeks
