I like to downrig for whites and hybrids in the summer and Jig for them the rest of the year. I have a livescope coming and I don`t know where I want to mount it. I plan to use a pole type mount but I don`t know where on the gunwale to go with it and want to keep the extra holes in the boat to a minimum. I was thinking midship but could go nearer the transom if it could resolve spoons trailing the downrigger ball. Has anyone tried livescope while downrigging? Is is useful?

I have mine on a PVC pole mounted next to my steering wheel so that I can turn it while I am fishing to look all around the boat. I fished with Tim (Skunked Again) and we used his while driving slowly, however he put a small brace to keep the pole from bending... I would mount it where you will be able to turn it and drive the boat so that you can scan with it while driving.

Pole dancer with a couple different 2 inch ball mounts. I don't worry about the core sitting on the deck. Having the ability to change location is great.

Answer your first question yes it's amazing.

OK,........ now you have to post a video of the fish coming up on the downrigger and taking the bait. thumb

I decide to mount it midship near the helm for now using a downrigger rod holder mount, so no new holes. I think I will leave it there for a test and see how I end up using it. I may try to go with the ball type or a low profile rail mount a put a few here and there if it it needs to be moved around. I really do want to watch a downrigger with this thing.

This is a little late and I know you already have the Livescope but the best panoptix for downrigger trolling is the PS30 mounted on the transom.
With the live scope you be hard pressed to see the downrigger ball with any real consistency unless everything is perfect.
