I bought 6 new spinning rods in early spring. First trip was for catfishing. Started crappie fishing and left the 20lb braid on there. Caught lots of crappie with it.

When I hang up on a brushpile, I just pull until it straightens the hook. Re-bend the hook with pliers and fishing again.

I detest retying jigs/lures.

So far, so good. Anybody else crappie fish with heavy line?

I have been using 15lb braid.
Like that I can pull jigs/lures free of most snags.
Hate how easy it raps around end of rod or gets into knots.

I am using yellow braid so my old eyes can see it easier. What color are you using?

I use 20# braid most of the time except when dock shooting.

I use braid on most of my spinning rods. J braid 8.. 20 or 30. With a fluorocarbon leader. 8 lb for crappie and 15 for bass. I use the same 7’ Med action rods. Quick leader change and it’s on.. green braid till it fades then sharpie black. Lol works for me.

I've been using 20# Sufix 832 on my jig rods for at least 5 years. No complaints. I went to the 20# after fighting tip wrap with lesser weights. For me, with a 1/8 oz jig + plastic, 20# all but eliminates the tip wrap issue. This plus an 8# or 10# fluoro leader attached with an Alberto knot. I can remember only once or twice I broke a line to leader knot with the Alberto.

I use 10lb braid.. Had customers break a few 12 foot rods with 20, 10lb is a great fit for me.

I use 10# - 20# braid to a swivel and then 8# mono leader on a 7' rod. Swivel keeps line wrap on rod tip to a minimum. Use high vis braid and mark every 6' for easy depth control.

Preserving Texas fishing heritage one lure at a time.

I have been using 20lb fire line on our jig poles since I lost a good one in timber. Most of the water we fish is either stained or muddy, so it doesn't affect the bite.

What I really like though is being able to land big fish in heavy cover. My dad and myself have landed 2 10lb flatheads, a 30lb carp, 3 bass over 5lbs, and an 18lb Gasper Gou. Try doing that with 6 or even 8lb test.
