PK is getting better but the lake is still muddy. The water is clearing nicely and I may see a clear lake again this year again unless we get another big rain down the Brazos. Stripper fishing is really off. Bait is super easy right now. I have never seen shad this easy to catch. Last night I decided to catch a half dozen perch to go with the shiners I was using for crappie and perch and I was catching a full net of really big gizzard shad on almost every cast ( thanks again to Randy Wood for the tip on the 7 foot net).

Below are some pics of what I am catching during the day. It's mostly LM Bass. The ones in the pic below are 22", 18" and 16". The striper is just shy of 20". Not what I was after but this is what I am getting fishing shady docks. Tried slow trolling live shad through schools of what I thought were stripers after watching some guide boats doing that..NADA, just like they got. I think the stripers are just waiting for the lake to clear. The one I caught was in poor shape. Even so I thought he fought harder than the big LM Bass.

Good report. Thanks for posting. The stripers on Texoma are very skinny also. Went there a couple weeks ago and caught many "overs", all in poor shape.

Hey there! Appreciate these reports! Can I ask a question about bait??

I know you cannot give away bait locations, but I am reading you say bait has been so easy! I have not found that due to my lack of knowledge! I have read and watched videos about shad being up in creeks, by lights, and in the mouths of creeks! Last two times I tried all 3 and only was able to catch those little 2 inch (I think they are threadfin) shad.

Am I looking in the wrong place for bigger shad those stripers might want to eat???

Thank you for any guidance anyone is willing to share!! I have gone super early both times...about 4:30 am because I have read it is better at night. I usially put in at BRA #1 and can always find a ton of threadfin in that little creek and see others cast netting there as well. But only found ONE 4-5 inch shad over 3-4 trips! Obviously I am messing up somewhere! smile Thanks guys... from a teacher from Aledo that wants to make the best of my summer! smile

Captcam3: I sure he was. His eyes were all bugged out of his head. Scary lookin thing. Jimmy was excited about eating him. Told me he was going to grill it with Picante sauce. Sounded perfectly horrible to me.

Yes but you are Randy Wood, a guy who has fished PK all his life and guides professionally. I would be bummed out if I hired you and didn't limit out. That said, catching a limit right now is no small task. No way I could do it. I do not know how you managed to do it.

The lake is clearing though. I was up in cedar creek today and it is looking pretty good.

Weatherford Sailor: Right now, I don't mind giving bait locations. Bait is everywhere. I was in cedar creek today and there were bait balls everywhere. Last night when I came in at the cliffs Marina, I think if I threw a net into that ball of bait below my boat the net would break.

If you are putting in at BRA number one over at Villa marina, you might catch some shad right there at the ramp. I know for a fact you can catch them at the swim beach in Neely slough. I was trying to catch a few perch there yesterday and got a full net of big Gizzard shad. Lots of shad up at the top of Neely slough as well Yesterday. Now keep in mind the lake changes day to day. Last week I was getting huge a net full of 2-3 inch threadfins where I'm seeing the big Gizzards now.

Thank God the lake is clearing up. My grandsons and I hit it yesterday (Friday) and wore them out (LM Bass)! My place is on the north side of the lake and put in at our private ramp fished points, brush and structure. We caught 25 most over three pounds, finally producing fish north of Costello. I love fishing Neely Slough and that end of the lake but on weekends so many A holes with large boats with no regard to others on that end, I leave it to them.

I did go up to Rock Creek to check things out and it's still muddy at the mouth but further up you go it clears up. I'm sure Bluff, Cedar Creeks will be back to normal soon, barring West Texas doesn't get any more monsoons again.

Ya'll keep a taught line!

Glad you were able to catch some nice LM Bass. You are spot on about the pleasure boats and Grandkid pullers on the lower end of the lake. Add that to the crazy teenagers with a supercharged Jet ski and you can understand why I almost never fish on weekends or holidays. Even during the week I get knocked around by big wakes from inconsiderate boaters.

Yes sir, night fishing is the answer. From Sunday night thru Thursday night. The weekends belong to the criminally insane , sea fleas and knuckleheads. Tiz why I live to dead stick , late October thru Feb and some early March weather. When water temps rise above 60 , dead stick is over .

They typically don't make it out until 8-8:30. Usually when I'm wrapping it up in the summer time anyway, unless it's a tough day.
