Hey guys,

So, not sure what constitutes a "large boat".. heh, but, I am pretty sure if I try to drop a 2004 Grady White (like in my signature) Islander in Lake Bastrop... I will be on youtube... so.. :P

I am not really looking to fish for bass etc, but it would be really nice to have options for when I need to get the boat off the trailer and/or test the engines etc. To that end, I am pretty nervous about the idea of dropping my boat at Mansfield Dam on Lake Travis. While my truck can and does haul this boat fine, that is a really steep ramp and when it gets wet, things slip. 7500lb boat vs my F-150....4-wheel drive or not, I do not like the math, so..

Who knows about Medina Lake? My friend and I take the boat to his dad's place a lot, his shop has a really large winch/lift that we can use and it is tall enough to back the boat in. They live close to Medina Lake. I planned to call the marinas around there and ask them about the place, but was hoping there were folks familiar with that one. Just looking for places with good enough ramps for this large of a boat.

I think Blanco county at Buchanan will do well enough for this. I have used that one a lot with my Triton 240. This only needs about 2.5' of water, but always curious.

I am wondering if the Perdenales is deep enough to use Turkey Bend ramp for this.

Not really interested in Lake Austin...not sure what other lakes would work. Lake Marble Falls.. used to use the ramp in Kingsland, again.. small and steep.. and I heard it was down due to that bridge.

Anyway, looking for closer options for maintenance and testing.. heh

Thanks!

Russ

Travis would be best if you need to run it a while. Most of the better ramps on Travis are going to be fairly steep like Mansfield. That's what it'll take to launch a bigger boat like yours. Put your F-150 in 4x4 low and it'll walk up that ramp without even putting your foot on the gas.

I wouldn't recommend Marble Falls. Bout the time you get her on plane you'd have to turn around. Buchanan also has some good ramps but that's over an hour from Cedar Creek one way. LBJ at the Yatch Club off 2147 also has a good ramp that's not real steep.

You get out of it what you put into it!

The ramp at the Medina lake county park is a good spot. well maintained and really long as the lake is full.

Thanks guys. That was the input I needed. I look forward to getting the top in, installed, and then dropping her in Medina to see how well the boat runs. That will not be more than her "break-in"... will technically be the "pre-maiden-voyage".. heh

Then, I look forward to getting her in the water at Port A for fishing....albeit.. I am betting I miss snapper season:(

Oh well, I will be ready next year heh

If it only needs 2.5 foot of water nearly any boat ramp you can find will do.

Just looking at the pic of his boat 2.5 foot would barely get the prop wet.

lol.. Red, threw me for a loop for a sec.. I was like, "wait.. did I post that on the hunting forum?" heh.

Well, true, but new to this boat so when they say that, I am not going to assume it is not only when it is empty. Right now, there is like 190 gallons of fuel in it, heh.. he was not able to burn off the fuel...so, will assume I need a good long and deep place to drop it in. That being said, it is also pretty long, so Lake Bastrop....at least the ramp I am used to, is in a fairly small alcove, if I remember correctly, so would look awful funny trying to do a 30-point turn to get out.. lol.

I am sure that after I am able to scout the lakes out, I will find places to drop this boat, just wanted some input on Medina mostly.

Well, based on the brochure as well as people that have owned one, it drafts at 17", so 2.5ft is pretty conservative.

FYI.....At Bastrop, North Shore launch has been having some work done replacing docks and such. Launch is open but tying up is a pain.

We launched and ran a 32' Sea Fox at Jackson's Bottom ramp on the north end of Lake Travis yesterday and it was pretty easy in and out
