Question #1: How many rods for a standard fishing trip?
Question #2 Of the above number. How many Baitcast and how many Spinning?

I started with only 3 rods. All were Baitcasters. I think I need at least one Spinning for a smaller presentation or maybe learn how to drop shot.

Take what you'll use. I usually take 2 rods, a medium spinning and a light spinning, or a medium baitcaster and a light spinning. More than that just gets in the way for me. Minimalism is good.

For most fishing I carry 3 rods. 2 baitcaster and 1 spinning (for smaller/lighter stuff). If I'm soaking baits for whiskers I'll run 3 rods if I'm anchored up 4 if I'm drifting. I'll admit 4 is too many.

I usually carry 3 spinning rods.
If I may be going for catfish will either add a baitcaster or go with 2 and 2.

I am so glad i put that rod holder on the front of my rig. It keeps the reels under control.

If I'm bass fishing, I take two medium heavy baitcasters (one for plastic and one for crankbait, spinnerbait or swimbait) and one ultralight spinning with a roadrunner tied on in case the sand bass start popping nearby.

If I'm crappie fishing I take one ultralight spinning and one baitcaster with a plastic of some sort tied on for when I run accross a lay-down than looks "bassy".

Over the past couple years, I paired down my tackle to two medium plano boxes and one small bag of plastics.

I'm still new at Bass fishing from a kayak, so I'm trying to figure everything out.
I bring 4 baitcasters. One frogging rod, a medium heavy for moving baits, a medium heavy for bottom baits, and a medium for lighter moving baits and crankbaits.

I'm trying to find the balance. I want to be flexible in my baits but not be overloaded with rods.

Me too. If I can't catch em with 2 Plano 3700's full of tackle and a bag or two of plastics having a bunch of additional tackle isn't going to help me.

So far:
Bass fishing : 3 total (Spinnerbait,Crankbait, and Worm)
Crappie: 2 total (One jigging pole and one for live bait if needed)
Catfishing: 3 total (# 7.6 foot Medium Heavy Proangler rods)

I've fished with one rod, a 5'6" spinning rod and Stradic Ci4+, of late. But, I wouldn't do this if I were going to a lake away from Lake Athens where I live. I'd hate like heck to snap a rod and end my day 30 miles from home, or more.

To me, the lighter I go out, the more fun I have, the quicker I can get set up and on the water, the more fish I catch.

If I am going off somewhere away from my home lake, I'll carry 3 or 4 rods, rarely fish with more than 2.

I keep it simple. 2 lightweight collapsible rod's and my reel's are all Zebco's. Small plastic tackle box that can go in the front hatch, or slide underneath the seat. Tub of worms. GTG.

Maybe we could put together a tournament that makes everyone equal and have a little fun.

This little bag works great for plastics. Its about 6"x6"x7". It fits about 8 to 10 bags of plastics, small scale, pliers and spare knife. As an added bonus, it was only $10 and came with two small plano boxes. The small boxes work great for trout lures and surplus crappie jig bodies.
