I was watching KVD and he caught a fish in the tongue, he let it go cause he said it would die if he put it in the livewell. Why would it die?

I don't know how valid it is, but I know they bleed like crazy if hooked in the tongue, so I'd guess bleeding out.

If he stuck it through the tongue it will die regardless of livewell if its gonna die. Bunch of arteries in the tongue I think.

If it was a Smallmouth, it will for sure. I don't know if they have a major artery running through their tongue or what. But, I've seen a smallie bleed out anywhere from 5 minutes to 60 seconds when tongue hooked.
