I have a 16 ft aluminum Lowe with a bow mounted trolling motor . The aluminum surface on the nose of the boat has cracked around the MKA-21 " Puck " Have any of you had troubles with aluminum cracking and what have you done to repair it and reinforce it so it doesn't happen again . Can anyone recommend a shop that can weld and fabricate aluminum to help me repair this so it is fixed once and for all . Thanks .

It can be fixed just have to do a search in your area for aluminum welding. Do you have a bounce buster on the motor? Being the front is cracking it looks like a trailering bouncing caused issue..?

I think the answer to a " bounce buster " is yes , I have a Ram Mount to stop the bouncing . With the way this broke I agree that the damage looks like it occurred during towing which is a little discouraging since I did try to prevent this with a ram mount . My searches for a local aluminum welder / fabricator have come up a little short . One welder said he could't Tig Weld upside down ? does this sort of repair require welds on both sides of the cracks ? I know nothing about welding non ferrous metals .

Man if there are no welders where your located. By a piece of 3/16 aluminum plate, draw it out on your front deck and fit and fab it nice. Bolt it on with stainless 1/4 bolts using fender washers underneath. You could cut a plate matching your front trolling motor pattern and put it under the deck to add reinforcement. Sandwich the cracks between two sheets of metal. Make sure your ram mount is doing its job. Thats what I would do. Put some anti slip tape on it and your set. Hope this helps

Don't know where you are located but you may want to give McGill's in Lewisville a shout.

I'm in Rockwall , I found a fabrication shop that welded a new plate on the top of the bow , they even did the 3 deg bends to make it look factory . Now its strong enough to " hopefully " never be a problem again .
