Have any of you guys been to Broken Bow lake in the kayaks?? Some buddies and I are taking a trip the first weekend of august and gonna try to catch some fish... We don't have any graphs on the kayaks so it would be beating the banks or going down below the dam and trying to catch some in the river??
Any tips or advice would be appreciated... This will be our first time up there.

I have not. Get the Navionics app. Well worth the money and you will at least have a good idea of what depth you're in by using your phone. It's not as good as a fish finder but it's sure better than nothing.

You get out of it what you put into it!

Love the Broken Bow area but I have never fished the lake (I go there to trout fish with the family in late fall).

Boating HD Marine & Lakes by Navionics is a great app. It's has a one time $10 cost, but it's nationwide and you can install it on your phone and tablet (without paying twice). This is the only app that I have paid more than $0.99 for and I feel it's well worth the price.

I use it to study a new lake or a new part of a lake before putting in. You can quickly identify steep banks, humps, long points, drop-offs, and river/creek channels. It greatly decreases the "hunt and peck" approach to new water.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Fishing the river below the dam, or the part of the river where it flows into the lake is a possibility but you definitely need to check the water flow levels. Above the lake the flow isn't controlled and can be really high or really. Below the dam it can fluctuate very quickly depending on if/when they run the generators. Always check the water releases if you go below the dam.
