I know this has been discussed before, but why nor one more time.

I love my traditional offset smoker, but sometimes I don't have time to babysit one all day for a cookout. I was looking at adding a pellet smoker to my inventory. My initial thought was to go with Traeger since they were the originals, but after reading some forums and doing a little research, it look like RekTek may be the better unit, in quality and features. So what are the thoughts of the wise OT?

We have one at the ranch and I love it. I have a Pit Boss and it works well. I have never been able to cook a decent brisket or ribs until I got this. is it the best out there probably not but considering only cook brisket and Ribs a few times a year it made more since to $$$ wise.

I have the Rec Tec 700 and I love it. Rec Tec is the best out there in my opinion. Their customer service is top notch.

Rec has all the internet fanboys beating their chest about them, Im not sure if the hype is real or not. I have a Green Mtn Grill and like it for what it is, I would rather have one gas fired and pellet smoked combo.

I have the Rec Tec 590. Only thing I haven't done yet is brisket. Chicken, pork butt, ribs.. have turned out great.I really like the controller too. I added a 12" smoke tube for when I do long cooks to get some extra smoke flavor. I didn't really like the Rec Tec pellets that they offer. I'm currently using Lumber Jack and I am liking those a lot.

Thanks for the input. I'm leaning towards the Rec Tek 700. It's $500 off right now.

Why did you need customer service?

Traegers have a history of catching fire. Green Mountain Grill is a better step up. I own a GMG, Daniel Boone Wifi and love it. They have great customer service and quick to help you replace parts if needed. But if I had it to do over, I would have gone with a Rec Tec or Yoder. The later 2 are a much better quality if you have the extra coin.

I love my Pit Boss. I’m sure Rec Tec is just as good or better.

I have had a Traeger for almost 7 years. Love it, not a bit of trouble, just don’t use the Traeger brand pellets. BBQR’s Delight or the ones HEB sells. I cook more on it than all of the other pits I built over the years combined.
