I think it depends on what type of water you're fishing (river, shallow lake, deep lake, etc.), when you're fishing and what type of cats you're looking for. Bigger cats (blues/yellows) this time of year are mostly going to be deeper. How deep again depends on the lake. Not to say you can't catch big uns shallow you can. At night they'll be in 5-8 feet of water. Daytime I'd be fishing deeper unless I'm looking for eaters. Then I'm looking for cover (brush piles, etc.) in 10 feet of water.

You get out of it what you put into it!
