I'm betting if you took two anglers each with identical fishing/catching skills and gave one a flasher only and the other some of the newer technology that they guy with the new tech averages out and catches more over the course of a season. Not sure about that, one thing the flasher does that the new technology cannot match is you get an instantaneous reading with the flasher and there is a delay with the new stuff. This is a myth carried over from the days of paper graphs. All graphs have a flasher mode if that is what you need or want. They also have the Amplitude Scope if you prefer. The right edge of a graph is as real time as is possible with any dephfinder.

Neither of them are any good if you don't know how to use them. Me, I want the latest and greatest. I like to see those stumps and rocks on the bottom with side scan and sonar side by side.
I am a Senager. (Senior teenager) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50 years later. I get an allowance every month. I have PU truck and a bass boat, I am blessed. Conscience never acquits, it either accuses or excuses.

Fritts has a flasher on the bow and console. Mounted next to his modern graphs.

Might be a reason he currently is last in AOY points and was 97 in 2017 and 2018. Tough to compete in the smart phone world while staring at the flip phone.
