I posted this over with the bass fishermen and got a couple good ideas...

Now I’m gonna give the Crappie guys a turn.

I’ve just purchased a 2019 Tracker TXW and it came with a Lowrance fish finder at the console.

I’m going to purchase a new fish finder to have installed on the front deck and was wondering if anyone charges less than Cabelas to install it...

Cabelas quote:
$150 roughly out the door.

The guy at Cabelas told me to buy the Lowrance that’s a step up, and move the console unit to the front and put the better one with GPS at the console. He said it’s really easy and I should just do it myself...I am very handy since I fix everything on my truck by myself, but something about this worry’s me...I guess I don’t want to screw up my new baby.

Any ideas are appreciated....btw, I live in Sherman.

Depth/ fish finder install is pretty simple. If you work on your vehicle you should have no issue. I agree with him on the GPS at the bow. You will never regret it. Now according to which model your boat has now you will have to decide if that's the one you want at the front. I like a down scan model, I run a Hummingbird Helix 7 DI. Cheap unit and does great. It has no gps just a fish finder with down scan. I have two units at the helm. A lowrance gps fish finder and a Hummingbird side scan Helix 5. I love the old Lowrance I have it works awesome and reads depth at any speed and the map is great. The Helix I use just for side scan. I love having it, opens up a lot of options. But I like having a unit that shows depth at any speed so the Lowrance had to stay. I fish for bass, crappie, and cats and I use the units for all. They all have their plus. Just have to decide what's important to you.

I have to say that the individual you spoke with at Cabela's has steered you straight.

I am here and happy to assist you if needed.

Our install fee is $199.00 and includes a dedicated 14 gauge wire harness with in-line fuse straight to the starting battery. No short cuts to a fuse panel or acc switch. The hardest part is running the transducer through the boat. tape some small rope to the current transducer and pull it through when pulling the current transducer out. Attach the rope to the new transducer and pull it through. If it is a Lowrance transducer replacing the old transducer then the hole pattern may be the same. Simply clean out the old holes and fill with new marine grade silicone and mount the transducer bracket. Easy enough. We have the wire harness available if you need it or you can find your own wire somewhere else. (recommended) wire all electronics directly to the starting battery with an in-line fuse.

I agree with David. I recommend Putting the fuses at the battery and tagging each with where it goes. That will save you a lot of time later. The best tags I have found are at Sprouts. In the area that sells bulk items like nuts, grains, etc they have little plastic ties for the bags that you write the items codes on. Get a few of them and mark them with a permanent marker. Twist them around each set of wires and you will have a permanent marker.
