We had buckets upon buckets of bullheads.....if i would have had them Thursday night i prolly would have cleaned house.....the area we fish is rather odd. It is on the Cibolo outside of Stockdale and what i have noticed is that even though i have a few spots that get well over 6ft deep with one spot getting over 15ft deep, we rarely catch cats on trotlines in those areas. Most of our fish have been in fairly shallow, waist or even knee deep water. we even added a large weight to the line to drop the middle of it down into the middle of the deeper section and came back up with dead bait on the lines. This is a spot i have fished since i was a young boy and it is amazing how holes have changed over the years.

The biggest cats are always caught in shallow water at night. Some of the biggest cats I’ve seen come on limblines in 18”-3’ of water.

Mckinneycrappiecatcher I agree. I grew up running lines on Lake Travis. We always ran our lines away from the bank at an angle so we could have more hooks in shallow water. If we had a line with 20 hooks on it that went 1/3 of the way across a big cove we'd usually only catch fish on the first 5 hooks or so. Rarely ever caught anything deep during an overnight soak.
You get out of it what you put into it!

When night fishing, I always move my baits into 5' of water around fallen trees or rocks. The big'uns use them as ambush points when they move into the shallows to feed. Saturday, I made another convert to raw chicken breast. We spend the entire day drifting below G Dam catching eater sized blues and channels. I had one that broke my cheap "garage sale" rod in half like it was a matchstick. It will be replaced with an Ugly Stick this week. I just can't drift with my heavier gear due to my arthritic hands I prefer to use a light to medium action rod with a spincast reel loaded with 10lb mono.
He is truly a sick individual.

I dont have a pic from the fishing trip, but this is pretty close to what im always looking for: Dont know if that actually posted the pic or not. From the website the pic is from, it is a green sunfish or goggle eye, though looking up goggle eye shows something completely different....lol Looks a bit like a warmouth but also like a green sunfish. Probably tastes about the same, especially if you're a fish.
