How long of pole would be optimal? I have a 8 footer. Also how do you have it on your Kayak?

I have a Jackson Coosa HD.
I either put tip in rod tip protector and then use bungies which would hold down base of rod to keep it in place or put in the rod holder behind the seat.

I use 8ft rod, something longer would be nice but to cumbersome for me even if it folds down.

Sir if you're talking about mounting a power pole on your yak I don't have one. Too expensive for me. I do use a stake out pole. How long depends on where you're fishing. I don't use my stake out pole unless I'm fishing in 3 or 4 feet of water (mostly in the bays) so I only use a 6 footer. Anything deeper than that and I use an anchor. I try not to carry both on the kayak. It's easy to have too much stuff then it all gets in the way.

I agree with you Jerry713. I am not getting a true power pole. In my Kayak there is two hole 2/3 the way in the front that would work fine for a Stake out Pole. So I made one. I also agree with you in not having both the pole and an anchor. the one that I have is 8 ft long. Just trying to get people's opinion.

I have an 8' stake out pole that breaks into two pieces (threaded). I don't need the 8' length to "stake" because I only stake out when I'm in 3 to 4' of water (like Jerry). However, I like the 8' length because I use it as a push pole.

Be careful using your stake out pole in the scupper holes. One they're not made for it. When a boat comes by or when you get some wave action it can crack your hull as those are weak spots on a kayak. Two in the wind it's going to pivot you around and get your lines tangled up. I tie mine off to my anchor trolley that way I can move it to the front or back of the kayak depending on the wind and when it shifts.

I started by making my own stake out poles with a true fiberglass 6' pole and handles that fit the pole from McMaster-Carr. Those proper sized handles were a serious pita to find. Then I bought 4 of the 8 foot poles for me, the brother and a friend. I liked the stake out pole so much that I bought a true PowerPole for the Hobbie. The prices are a little crazy on these things but it really is something that I would buy again.

The dirty secret to PowerPole is the pricing structure. You think that a Micro Power Pole costs $599 because that is what you see advertised but that is the GREAT LIE. That's just for the motor and the pole itself is another $100. Then for me the Hobie mount was another $90 and then the battery was another $200 so that thing is a thousand dollar stick in the mud. For flats fishing this thing is just grand.
