I've been kayak fishing for a while and have mostly stuck to smaller lakes and creeks. Fishing with regular and fly rods for bass and perch.
I'd like to start doing some striper fishing, but I'm not sure how to setup my kayak rig or how to find striper on a large lake like Texoma.

I've seen some invites from some of you and I was wonder if you pros would mind maybe setting
up a trip for some of us newbies on texoma. Reading thru all these threads is great, but theres
nothing like some OJT.

Thanks!

Pretty flooded right now, but the fish are biting. I would recommend a fish finder and the ability to travel distance on the water. Also, swim baits such as can be found here: http://reaxtionlures.com/axs_coho%20-%20paypal.html. Troll as you go, you will pick up a few as you move from location to location.

Im not great with striper. I troll for them. I use 1.5-2 oz roadrunner jigs with long curley tails and deep diving rapalas. I average 10-15 miles.

I was out there on Thursday i was chasing striper from 730 to 12 they quite running then. But i caught 3 that were over 25" on a fluke paddletail. They tore up all my flukes mostly little ones and i switched to a crappie minnow and caught a bunch of smaller ones. I put in at the dam by the public boat ramp and i am like you new to striper fishing so thanks for asking the question before i did. Just would like to locate the bigger ones you know 30" and more.

Years and years ago there is a hardcore group of us that fish for striped and hybrid bass but some of the most experienced kayakers moved on and bought a boat.

I do not fish Texoma year round but concentrate during the months between late Oct-Feb so with my limited experience this time of the year here is where I would concentrate.

If you are looking for the big girls(30" plus), venture into FLOODED parts of the lake. WAY back into creeks, fish shallow before sun rise and sunset. There is a 1-2 hours window both sunrise and sunset before they start moving deeper. A few good spots to check out are Burns run, Lakeside and my personal favorite the north islands.

When the shallow bite ends, move to deeper water. Ledges CLOSE or NEXT to the main river channel. Eventually majority of the stripers will concentrate around the dam area(if not already).

I am hoping to find another group of kayakers that enjoys fishing for striped species. Look for more open invites in the very near future once the wind subsides.

Might be doing a short 4-5 hours scouting trip to Ray Hubbard next weekend if anyone is interested.

Now,,,,im probably not the best one to ask. I have always used roadrunner jigs with the spinner thing and either a fluke or a curley tailed worm thing or deep diving rapalas. Im sure from my super professional terminology you can tell how much i fish for them. Never had a problem getting several but there are better ways and definitely better guys. I dont use any type of fish finder either so i cover long distances to get what i get. On average 10-15 miles.

I went out on Saturday. The reported high south wind is manageable and was actually no factor. All caught were around the same size:

Sounds like a blast.
Catching a few of those makes for a good day, Good job!
Had a trip planned but had to cancel because roads where we were going were flooded.
Plan to get back out there mid August.

I'm down to try kayaking Texoma. I'm new to kayak fishing, mainly stuck to smaller lakes. I will admit I'm a bit nervous about kayaking on such a huge lake.
