We have been using minnows quite a bit lately. They won't hit a minnow as readily on a jig head. We have been using a snelled hook with a pinch on weight about 5" above the hook. This allows the minnow to swim free and gets us a lot more bites. A lot of bites are so soft that you don't feel them. the fish just swims up and sucks the minnow in and sits there. You can see this on livescope. Just raise the rod and if you feel pressure set the hook. Works.

Today's trip was pretty good despite the wind. First stop on some rocks produced about a dozen nice crappie plus a bunch of sandbass. Tried another rockpile and saw a lot of fish swimming around. Not schooled up like crappie but not moving like sandbass either. Quickly found out if you put a live minnow in their fact they would hammer it. Only problem, they were catfish. 8"-18" and a pain to get off the hook. Moved on to some brushpiles. They had a lot of fish on them but only a few at each pile would bite. Finished the day with a cooler full of nice crappie and happy clients ready to buy a livescope.

clap

Might be a good time for a light cork above that minnow. Nothing like watching a cork disappear!

Sounds like a good time had by all.

Don't have time to watch a cork. To busy watching the sonar screen and watching the fish.
