I need a good jig rod for 1/2-3/4 ounce flipping and football jigs, would also like to use it for heavy shaky heads also if I needed to. Needs to be able to sling a jig out and flip heavy cover. All opinions are appreciated!

735 might be better. 736 is very stout, that is my frog rod.

Not sure how well it would cast a fb jig. I have a 735 that I use for pitching a beaver around. Lots of guys using it for frogs. The extra stiffness of the 736 would limit the fb jig use for me. Id check out the mike long jig rod.

736 is a great frog and Heavy flipping/punching rod. IMO, too stiff for big shakey head and football head jig. the 734 is a great football jig and big shakey head rod. 735 works, too- just a little heavier for bigger line and vegetation. If you stick to the middle and get the 735 I bet you will be extremely pleased with it's performance.

I'll third what a couple others have said here. I use a DC 736C for frogs and 70# braid. It feels too stout for dragging a football jig to me and I don't like pitching anything less than a 3/4 ounce with it.

On the other hand I have a DX 745C which is comparable to the 735C and it is a great football jig rod. You can pitch with it as well.

See i have a 734 and 735 now, 735 Mag-Heavy Fury being my dedicated frog rod with braid. I was going to get a Champion 735 but its listed as a medium-heavy? The same goes for the 765 Fury and Champ. The 734 is definitely too light for a 3/4 ounce football jig, at least in my opinion. (I use that for Texas Rigs). I may just get another 735 Fury for flourocarbon to throw shakey heads and small swimbaits on, and get a 765 Champion for my jigs....

Good choice to go with the 735 especially when fishing deep with jigs. That said one trip to Falcon and having a 736 in the boat would be a good move if you plan to pitch brush.

Dobyns 744 or 735. I probably wouldn't pitch with the 744, but open water football or casting jigs are perfect for it. I have the 745(extreme equivalent of the 735) and I throw heavy football jigs and pitch with it. I wouldn't get the 734, it's more parabolic(slower action) than the 744. The 734 is great for spinnerbaits, buzz baits, and buzz toads.

735 is the way to go. Its a great frog right and a great flippin rod. Can handle cover as well.

If you can't find em wind em.
