Joe Pool Lake is in bad shape. The water is a dark green. Since the lake was up several feet at one point a few days ago the shoreline is dirty and the plants at the marina are dead.

I made my way out there yesterday. The marina store has reopened after being flooded but the supplies are not replaced. No worms! I had to see what I could do with what I had. Now, I am a devoted disciple of Chuck. " Worms are the bait of champions." I do not like to fish Joe Pool with artificial lures. The bottom has a short plant that looks like Bermuda grass and it will hang a lure every time. So I use a slip bobber set just above the bottom. And I do not have any of the Gulp sunfish products. I cut the legs off a crappie jig and put two of them on a #10 gold Aberdeen hook with a crappie nibble. The sunfish bit, but nothing like what I would expect with worms or even Gulp.

Bottom line is I did not catch any large sunfish. I did catch about 20 fat beauties, but small. The biggest was a 7 inch bluegill. The smallest was a 4 inch green sunfish.

Before I go again I plan to go to Academy and stock up on Gulp products so that I will not get caught short again. Our Walmart does not carry any live bait or Gulp products.

The lake was never close to 12 ft high a few days ago?

I could not remember exactly high high it got. It was enough to close the marina and restaurant Thank you for the correction.

Nice variety of fish! I mainly use lures and soft plastics while fishing for sunfish. I also use my fly rod a lot. When I am not using my lures or soft plastics I use a lot of the Gulp Alive Products. The Gulp Alive Leaches and Minnows have gotten me the best results. Acadamey usually has a good sale on Gulp Alive Products in October. Again nice variety of fish. Good job. woot

Awesome post and some nice fish. Good job Smithaven. cheers Love the way to adapted your bait. hooked

Side Note: When out of the "Bait of Champions" (worms) Gulp Alive Products are second to best. Gulp Alive Minnows,Worms, and Leaches work well and get good results. partyon However nothing beats a nice fat "Night Crawler"! hooked
