What a day, what a day on Lake Vogey ! I fished from dawn until 1PM. My day started out slow. I tried the spots Steve tried yesterday with the same results. Just a few fish. I didn't fight it out since Steve had no luck the day before. I decided to try some spots I did well at last September and a couple of new spots. They're baaaack ! All were in about 6 feet of water. Water temp was 90F. Wind light and variable. Cloud cover off an on. I used my new ultra light gear which I really like. 6 foot Major Craft Fine Tail regular-fast action rod. Shimano Sahara loaded with 6 lb Nanofil, which has the same diameter as 2 lb mono. I tied on an 8 foot 4 lb Stren leader. I used a #4 Aberdeen hook with a B size shot. This is the smallest size split shot. I think it's 1/80 oz. The bait would sink very slow and the perch took it readily. I used red wigglers with a couple of live maggots. I fished 5 different spots and caught fish from all. I probably caught about 45 good bluegill and red ear, about a 60/40 mix. 8 to 9 inch range. Only a few dinks. I caught 1 bass about 15 inches. Fun !! Fish are in excellent condition. Very chunky. I needed some perch filets for the fish fry we are having this coming Sunday with my kids so I kept a 15 good ones and let the others swim. I also remembered to stop on IH10 and take a pic of this sign on the way home. I've thought about getting a pic of it for a long time. Does anyone know the story behind the name of this creek ?

Doc...super day with great pics...I sent u a pm. Woman Hollering Creek....I have never see that sign...it must be between Park Prairie Park & Oak Thicket. Wonder if it has anything to do with the closing of the infamous "Shack outside Lagrange" on the 1960s ?

Nice catch thumb The wind is supposed to start picking up again. It will be 15 mph this weekend. Which means it will be about 30 mph on Fayette grin I went out an fished it on Sunday. It sure was nice to be out there on a calm day in the kayak. I won't go out there unless the winds are predicted to be less than 5 mph since it always seems to be twice that high on the lake.

Nice post Chris. Love those fat Bluegill. thumb

Side Note: I fish Woman Hollering Creek a lot. I have several nice spots to fish on that creek and they usually produce. The name of the creek Woman Hollering got it's name from a story way back. A tribe of Indians were camped on the creek and some of the lady Indians were giving birth. They would scream as they were giving birth due to the pain of labor. As a result of the screaming the name Woman Hollering was given to the creek. "And now you know the rest of the story"! partyon

Woman Hollering Creek...I googled it & it a pretty generic story in Texas...the one I read talked about a woman who killed her kids somewhere around Seguin way back around the time of the Alamo. There are many creeks by that name...even in other states...

I fished out of Oak Thicket. I covered a lot of water but only found one good spot. I caught around 20. Mostly bluegill and only a couple of hybrid sunfish. No red ear. They were huge though. I actually weighed and registered a 0.88 lb. bluegill for a new lake fly rod record.

The bite is definitely not near as good as it was last September. I was catching a minimum of 50 plus fish each outing and finding them everywhere.
