Colton, just go under the main car bridge and point yourself at 1-2 o’clock toward the land/point that is north of the discharge and has power lines running to it. You can run on pad to that not problem. From there you can shat down and idle to the railroad bridge. 5-7 minute idle max. Stay roughly 30-40 yards off bank on your idle and you’ll be fine. If you do that, it’s pretty much worry free.

How was the travel to the railroad bridge? That route you posted is the trail to the railroad bridge. It's idle only once you get there.

with the water low now, most of the stumps are visible. Actually easier to run it now than it was. If you ever go out with kids, ton of sand bass down by the damn. Seriously? Have you seen this recently Greg? I want to take my youngest daughter out for sandies. She loves getting in em. I’m in Lindale and looking for a sandies lake relatively close. I was there maybe 3-4 weeks ago. Down on the left side of the damn got over a school and were catching them every catch. Got bored after about a dozen of them, but one of them was > 2lbs and was taking serious drag. Thought maybe I had a catfish or something it pulled so hard. All on a chanteuse slab on the bottom. Just casted it out, reeled pretty hard 6 turns, let it fall, do again. They'd hit mostly on the fall so tell the kids to be ready. Slammed it hard so they probably don't even need to set the hook to get hooked up.

Fished there Sunday afternoon.. caught a few in the pads and near the railroad bridge late. Only a couple of boats on the water where I was and they were catching a few as well. Saw them catch a 4lber but nothing over 2.5 for me. I was looking for a big one and throwing a 10 XD, 5 inch flutter spoon and 7 inch hollow belly swimbait and not getting bit until I downsized and went shallow. Wished I'd gotten there early but needed sleep so didn't get on the water until around 3 p.m. Lots of grass too. Can't wait to get back there. I was there Sunday morning until 11:30am. Five other boats on the water and mostly around the bridge and dam. Started out in the pass and caught only 1 fish in 2 pound range. Grass is a lot less healthy than it was last year. Spent 40 minutes at the bridge without success. Other boats catching plenty of small sandbass. The lake is loaded with them. Went shallow on the launch side of the bridge to discover giant schools of Shad with no bass in sight. Probably full off Shad. Found one area away from the massive Shad schools and caught one 4 pounder and two spotted bass. Watermelon creature bait. As far as the run to the railroad bridge I run directly from the highway bridge to the point everyone mentioned and then idle between the power lines. Stump field is pretty obvious but anything close to that point is not. Good luck, hope you get their on a day they are biting.

You may not know but Monticello IS NOT THE LAKE IT WAS. Power plant has been shut down totally and the gates opened to allow the level to match Sandlin. It is not a hot water lake anymore. You might want to reconsider Monticello. Lol this guy is right it’s not the lake it was......it’s not crowded anymore. the trail you have is good. Can run on pad to the bridge but go down/under power lines after you go around the point. Either side of the power line cut is stumpy. Btw many of the stumps are pointed and unforgiving. Have seen several boats that have poked holes in the hull and got hung on stumps so don’t recommend powering over them with big motor. Just idle slow through stumps or use troll motor in stumps. The good thing right now is that most stumps are out of the water at the lower level so it’s a bit easier to navigate through them.

Frank, I was at Monti a couple of weeks ago. Sandies were schooling up in Smith, so highly likely you'll also find them down at the damn.

Foot in picture just for TFF.

Man I hope everyone out there starts keeping all those sand bass they are catching. I've only caught 3 or 4 since the opened the gates to Sandlin. Also has a few spotted bass in there which didn't exist prior to the gates being opened. Nice pic Louis! I haven't seen you out there in a while. Of course, It's been a little while for me as well.

And yes, many believe some bass have left Monti to Sandlin because shortly after the gates were open, tourneys were being won with 27+ # bags with several coming right by the gates.
