Hello guys/gals.
Yesterday I tried this rig for the first time. When casting it out I noticed that my egg sinker was landing about four feet back from the swivel. I could then see my 2 bobber floating on top of the water, so Im thinking my weight is not sliding down to the swivel like it should. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you in advance!!

The float is pulling the line through the eye hole and coming up to the surface. Take a toothpick and jam it into the eye hole to secure it.

Guess I use them wrong, I run line through bobber with the pin wedging line between plug and float. Float is staying two inches below hook. I understand what your saying, but the same affect is still keeping bobber in place, what gives? Will the egg always travel down to the sinker if it hits the water before bobber does? Id really like to figure this out. I even reeled in some in a attempt to let sinker slip down the line. Am I casting too far?

When I first started using no roll weights years ago my floats had a tendency to come to the surface due to slack in my lines, if I tightened them up then with boat movement from waves or me walking around the boat would cause slack and cause my baits to rise way above the strike zone. The way I fixed it was by adding a split shot above my weight when Im on anchor. Works for me if Im using the same setup for drifting or anchor on the same trip. If I know Im going to stay anchored I use fixed weights on a clasp.

Confused. Doesnt that defeat the purpose of santee/Carolina rig. The ability of the weight to bait to travel without the fish feeling the weights?

IMO, santee-cooper is best suited for drift fishing (or trolling). Then there's some tension on the line continuously. Otherwise, you'll have to somehow peg the lead to keep the (santee rig) bobber from floating up, when your line goes slack. No way to get around that problem when still fishing. Ya, you can adjust the tension on a bite-and-run reel to keep the float down if the rod is in a holder (bank fishing).
If you're still fishing, why not just bobber fish to hold your bait in the zone?
Then again, (for still fishing) leave the float off. Then you can keep the ability for the line to run through the weight.

I used to think the same thing and if your fishing for channel cats that would probably be the case. I fish for larger bluecats and there has been days where I think they are finicky and will drop the bait pretty fast but most of the time a bluecat will crash a bait and run and you will have more than enough time to set a hook. I typically use 8 to 11 rods on my boat and I always use clickers and youd be surprised how long and far they will carry a bait with a fixed weight.

Fellas, either switch rigs or listen to Mjmmetro719 and hope one day you can be 1/10th the catfisherman he is. Mike is one of the best around and has helped me a ton. He catches big fish even in the summer when most of us yahoos are catching dinks. texas

I regularly use 5oz weights on the Tennessee River. The cats don't seem bothered at all by it. I did switch over to balloons instead of floats. About a golf ball size is all it needs to float large baits off the bottom.

Try drop shot rig for cats.

https://www.catfishedge.com/drop-shot-rig/

But add a small pegged float above the hook. The float will keep the line in vertical position.
