A recent travel experience hammered something home for me. Men and women pack for travel much differently. Scenario: 7 day trip. Lodging was an Air BnB type place, with it's own kitchen, laundry machines, etc. All the comforts of civilization within walking distance. I packed 3 changes of clothes, plus what I wore on the plane. I was packed in 30 minutes the day before the flight. She packed well over a weeks worth of clothes, and what looked like a years supply of cosmetics. I was done packing at 6pm ... at 11pm, she was still deciding if she wanted to pack 3 or 4 pairs of shoes, and hadn't gotten her carryon packed yet.

Last year I went on a trip for 14 days with a friend I've known for 30 years. Tropical destination, so t-shirts and shorts kind of trip. I had one medium suitcase, one carry-on with mostly electronics (gps, camera, etc), and a computer bag.
She had a giant purse, a carry-on, and three of the largest suitcases allowed without an oversize charge. One suitcase was nothing but bathroom stuff - every chemical and machine you can imagine, plus every piece of jewelry she owned.
It was so much trouble that after 5 days, she shipped one bag home UPS (at a cost of over $100), and then after another 5 days she shipped a second one (another $100+), and she still ended up with the last one being overweight and having to cram her giant jewelry case inside her giant purse so she could get on the plane with that and the carry-on.

Top this: when my wife went on trips she bought so much she had to occasionally had to buy a suitcase and pay excess baggage fees to bring it back. This is after carefully packing to get her allowed bag under 75lb.

I can pack my whole wardrobe in a 90L North Face Duffel. I may need to buy an iron when I arrive but such as life.

Im traveling this week (Sunday-Friday) with a carry on and a backpack. Ive got two pairs of jeans, cowboy boots, sneakers, a sport coat, three golf shirts, three button downs, t-shirts, under shirts and socks and underwear. Ive also got a laptop, iPad and all the normal man grooming products.
Its easy if you plan just a little.

My family and I are traveling to Colorado this summer. Renting a house so we have washer/dryer, kitchen, etc. My son (10yr) wants me to bring my 15 passenger van from work to take the trip in. The very first thing out of my mouth when he told me that was "Well if we did take the van, I can promise you that mommy would find some way to fill the entire van up from front to back".
