"Kali's Law" has been signed and put into law by Governor Abbott.
So happy her parents have been pushing to get this bill approved since her tragic accident in July 2012
This will go into effective September 1, 2019 in Texas ! Kali has to be smiling down from heaven smile

I agree that Kill switches should be worn, however, I hate the fact that we have to have a law in place before people do the right thing.

so a passenger on a boat fell out, hit the prop and died? How was a kill switch going to prevent that accident from occurring?

Took a seat belt law to encourage drivers to do the right thing.

How does something like that get checked...? I guess the game warden will ask to see your lanyard attached to a kill switch...
People still have to use them. fish

So does this law mean you have to actually wear your kill switch or does it state exactly what the article says that it just has to have a lanyard attached?

I bet a lot of tickets will be handed out.....Tournament people get use to wearing them but if you are out for a fun day of skiing I never see the driver wearing a life jacket...

I guess ill go against the grain on this one and say I dont like having it as the law. It should be personal choice if you want to wear it or not imo.

Its going to prevent the boat from circling back around and running over said person that was just thrown from the boat.

My boat has a hotfoot so unless the throttle sticks I'm really not at the same risk level as folks with the hand throttle, but I will gladly wear my kill switch.

Life jacket is not required and not needed to attach the kill switch. Belt loop on your shorts or pants will work fine, if thats not possible it can be wrapped around your wrist and hooked back on itself. I'm not condoning not wearing a life jacket, just that the kill switch does not require one to be functional.

Life jacket is not required, just the lanyard/kill switch from my interpretation....

Yes. The kill switch lanyard must be physically attached to the operator of the boat.

Its a good law, its protecting everyone on the lake, not just the people in the boat but possibly other boating traffic around the circling boat as well, and any others trying to stop the boat. Win win situation!
