I'd like to drift for blues out deep on Palestine in the pontoon. Are you guys using drift socks, or dragging an anchor, or are you not drifting at all?

An Ultrex or i5 isn't an option right now.

My 24 ft toon took up to three 36 inch socks depending on the wind. A eight ft wide drift curtain made of trampoline safety sides and a pipe worked the best

Make yourself a drift chute out of a hay tarp and a piece of pipe with some rope.

We use up to (3)78 drift anchors on our big bay boat. We fish the rollers in up to 25 mph wind and they keep the boat below .6 mph. I dont recommend drifting in a toon with 25mph wind though! Got our socks from Cabelas but I think you gotta get em from Bass Pro now that they are the same company. Get the biggest socks they got and get 2 of em. Light wind use 1 and if you get to drifting over .6-.7 then throw out another sock to slow you back down. Easterlin Sea Anchors makes a 10ft sock that Im gonna be running next fall and winter. Its expensive but I hear they really hold a big boat good. The 54 Lindy fisherman series are the most economical Ive seen and I used em for many years but they dont hold my bay boat near as good as the 78. You can get the 54 lindy fisherman on Amazon for $30 and we still use em on light wind days.

Gato, are you spying on me? Youll love the Easterlin sockI I have their 10 and 6 foot socks. Between those 2 socks, I can get a perfect drift speed in most conditions with my boat.

Jimmy, we run the same rods, same reels, even tie the same damn rigs. We pattern fish the same, use nearly identical techniques like power drifting and pulling boards. Im thinking we could be long lost brothers amigo! Lmao roflmao It doesnt surprise me you already have some Easterlin socks... Now I know I gotta get some! cheers

I use up to two Bass Pro XL drift socks (72" I think) on our 22' pontoon. It slows it down really well. One thing I've noticed is some people don't let out enough line for the drift socks to work properly. In order for them to function as intended, the drift socks need to be out away from the water that the boat is disturbing. The further from the boat the better.

Keep us posted on your solution. I have as 24 foot pontoon and more than likely will get with tom gravely for a guide trip and get him to explain his drift setup. I actually fished with him.on his catfish pontoon and we caught them bigtime on a very windy day driftng with his tarp. I just did not make any mental notes . Yes I have memory issues since my strokes.

My friend Johnny (7777) used to have a toon and we drifted a lot...2 socks were needed in a stiff breeze he has the big cabelas socks...i think they were 72..it was like dragging parachutes 2cents he finally sold it.....

If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....
