Something for the bass enthusiasts to consider...

Every year late May to early June we transition to more of a horizontal presentation vs vertical while fishing for hybrids/striper. This presentation becomes more and more critical as the water continues to warm. We start with heavier lures with a leaner profile and gradually transition to lighter slower fluttering designs in August and September.

Every summer we pick off solid numbers of 3-4 pound large mouth bass with a few pigs thrown in the mix. The technique seems to work best on points or steep ledges with scattered stumps/debris. I would imagine this method to be a nice break from slow dragging a Carolina rig, or the workout of fishing a deep diving crank effectively.

A coupe pics of pigs we were fortunate enough to land. I would definitely rig a large single stinger on the head if targeting bass. These green fish have a terrible habit of shaking heavy lures! lol

Those are some solid chunks! What kind of retrieve are you using on the horizontal presentation. Thanks for the information. thumb

I wont just give away every detail, but I'll give you the critical pieces to the puzzle. Its not just chunking and winding. You have to FISH it.

Critical Method:

boat position relative to structure or school of fish
rod orientation
lure weight/profile/color- rate of fall most critical
speed of retrieve
number of reel turns before free fall back to bottom- Where are you marking fish in relation to the bottom?

This is a great post front method on suspended fish as well. We have thrown at a school for 20 min without a bite trying to make them fire. All it takes is one bite, and its on!
