Went to the White River in Arkansas last week. Beautiful place. On Wed. we took a trip with a guide that I've used before. Told him we'd like a limit (5) of Rainbows then fish for Brown Trout. We caught 20 Rainbows in about 30 minutes. Then we fished for Browns. Had a unbelievable day. Caught 16 and 6 were over 22 inches. The biggest was 26 in. 6 1/2 lbs. They consider any over 22 in. a trophy fish. They were all released to fight again. The guide holds them for pictures so they don't get hurt and can be released quickly. [Linked Image]

Awesome job, and beautiful fish.

Only two White Rivers I know of, one in Meeker, Colorado where I lived and the other coming out of Bull Shoals. Both are great trout fisheries. Back in the 80's caught a 8lb. brown in Meeker. Biggest trout I ever caught out of the White River. Brings back memories, thanks.

How much does a guide cost?

Does he provide the equipment?

2 people $400 for a full day. 7:30 - 3:30. Some provide equipment some don't. The one I use does. They furnish lunch. A sub sandwich, chips, cookie. Mine doesn't do a shore lunch anymore. He said it takes 1 1/2 hours that you could be fishing and after eating fried fish and frys then getting back out in the sun doesn't agree with peoples stomachs. The guide service I use is Cranor's Guide Service. They have 4 or 5 guides. If you use him request Lou. He is one of the best on the river. He has been guiding since he was 15. Look at Cranor's website.

Great report and always heard White River to be excellent Trout waters.

The guide holding the fish for pictures seems a bit much, surely they would let you hold some with only you in the picture.

Believe me I know how jumpy and slimey trout are, I've dropped many on the rocks along the river but with a net it should be doable for a picture..

I didn't mind the guide holding them at all. He only held the big ones. I have pictures of us holding the smaller ones. The Brown's are not stocked so what is in the river is it. They take great care to get them back in the water as soon as possible with minimum handling so somebody else will get the thrill of catching a big one on ultra light gear. I'm hoping my 6 1/2 lb'er will be 8 lbs when I return.[Linked Image]

Thanks for explaining further Slim, hope you didn't take my comments the wrong way.
I understand the catch-an-release method so bigger fish down the road or river.
Those are truly trophy class fish.

Hope you get that 8Lb Brown or bigger next time and thanks for sharing pics and info.
