I went fishing on Bastrop today. This lake is so different this year. Eel grass used to be the primary vegetation on this lake. Find the eel grass, find the bass. The lake has been inundated with other forms of growth. I don't think this is hydriila. One of these new weeds I think is American pond weed. I can't seem to catch any fish around this stuff, either.
Anyone else seeing a change for the worse on Bastrop?

Been catching out there.
They haven't sprayed in a couple of years(Yea!), so the spiny naiad and hydrilla have taken over. Still plenty of eel around. Most of our fish came up against the reeds. We hit it last Wednesday and I boated a 4lb and a 3lb and the trip before was 22 boated up to 3 lbs.
Plenty of shad.

Amazing how different a fisherman's experience on a lake can be. I never catch anything around the reeds on Bastrop.

I've never fished it, but a friend does regularly. He keeps regaling me with tales and photographs of numerous bass and huge bream taken on flies. He likes it a lot.
