I just bought an ultrex at a very fair price that needs some major repairs. This is a 2016 model.
From what I can tell the 2016 models did not come with the heading sensor? Is this something I should look at adding/can I add it? I am a bass fisherman and will most likely not use the jog feature.
Also, while I am in this process of repairing the ultrex, is there anything that has changed with the newer models worth changing on mine. I will have the unit mostly disassembled since most of the major components need replacing.
Thanks for all the help!

Thanks Boomer. Not sure where I had read that.
Is that a necessary part?

Thanks Boomer. Not sure where I had read that.
Is that a necessary part? Not 100% needed. But it will not autopilot without it. It will spot lock fine and save spot locks, just wont know which way the boat is pointed

Steez is correct not 100% needed, is necessary for the jog feature.

As mentioned you do not need it. Most people just use it as a trolling motor with spot lock but I have been surprised how often I use the heading sensor to auto pilot or cruise in a specific heading. Sometimes while casting down a bank or like yesterday at Hubbard Creek just cruising across to another point while I ate a quick lunch. I do not have the I-pilot link so my motor will not follow contours...while linked to my depth finder by I would recommend getting the heading sensor. Easy to install and calibrate. https://www.google.com/search?clien....0....1.........0i71j0i22i30.6D_12qNaAjU

The Ultrex warranty has been extended to 3 years. Have you checked if your repairs might be covered under warranty?

Ask the person you bought the trolling motor from. Probably had it mounted and forgot or he didn't want to remove it but you might get lucky and get it. While may not be necessary, I use mine quite a bit between autopilot and when I am working a brushpile. Easy to spotlock and then move right or left, forward or backwards 5 ' at a time and keep concentrating on fishing.
