For the past 3 years, I've been Powder painting lead heads.
4 weeks ago I began airbrushing with createx paints.
I've read all the manuals and watched the videos.

The paint applies just fine, looks amazing.
Better than powder paint, on most.

Trouble is, the paint doesn't last, no matter how long
I let dry it rubs off easily...

I'm a big fan of Diamond Finish, I've sprayed that on
and it gives a clear shiny coat... But I still have problems with the paint chipping...

Any Suggestions on helping the paint adhere to the lead better?
Any proven sealer/hardener to prevent chipping and make a
rock hard head roflmao like powder paint, Pro-Tec?

I use the Reducer and bonding agents by Createx too...
I find the paint sticks strongly on plastic cranks...

But not Lead! Any suggestions Old Timers? Yodas? soldier

Thanks, in advance!!

As Always Tight Lines,
Parker

Are you putting any kind of clear coat on them? Ive painted spinner bait heads then used Devcon 2 part 30 min epoxy with no issues. It looks good and seems to last. I havent tried dipping one in KBS but imagine it would work as well.

I've been using Diamond finish which is a clear coat... I've heard Great things about Devcon I'm just leary about mixing. But It seems pretty straight forward. I've used UV Seal coat when I powder dip and that works but haven't tried with the Createx. I wouldn't dip tho bc the frame would get it too. Unless I wrap it? I'll most def try Devcon next thanks.

Just get you a stack of medicine cups from Amazon and a pack of cheap plastic paintbrushes for mixing and brushing. The paintbrushes you can find at hobby lobby they have a plastic handle and black bristles. They come in a pack of 50-100 I cant remember but are $3.99. Its just a 50/50 mix of epoxy, mix well and brush on. You will have about 4-5 minutes of working time once you mix it so work fast.

Dip your lead in vinegar to neutralize it.

Matt, I did my first few today! Works great thanks! Did however brush on too much the first few and it bubbled.
Working on perfecting it tomorrow! Thanks for the tips, Thanks a ton!

Rube,

Is that before the mold? or After the paint?

Thats awesome! You can use a torch or even a hair dryer to help relieve the bubbles shortly after its applied. I do use a rotisserie when I use epoxy that helps but not required. Ive really wanted to try the UV coatings. To me that seems ideal, but then again I havent tried it. Im sure I will soon enough.
