Hi all

First post smile I got my first boat a few months ago (used 19' center console) and I have finally got the confidence to take it into the main channel of Lake Travis amid the mayhem of the speed boats and jet skis. shocked My preferred ramps are Jones Bros Park and Arkansas Bend. I get out there first thing in the morning but I've skunked every time for the past 2 months. I'm not winning points with the teenage son, you know? I use a trolling motor, fresh plastics and scent sometimes and have covered everywhere in Sandy Creek (docks, points, coves, deep, etc). I THINK I've been fishing too big (4-5" swimbaits) so next trip I'm scaling down and I hope to do better. But I'm also wondering, is it possible all of the traffic in the Sandy Creek and Ark. Bend area makes the bass skittish and hard to catch? Would I have noticeably better odds going up river to Pace Bend or further? I'm not looking forward to 30+ minutes of boat ride (especially on the way back mid day) but if I'm missing something obvious like my area is too noisy I'd do it. I'd appreciate any ideas y'all have and thanks for reading.

Clark
Finally, a boat!

This surely is a joke....

But in case its not:
No the boat noise is not a problem. Ive sat on brush piles on pk and caught fish with hundreds of boats coming by. I would just pic something simple and stay with it. Take a shaker head and just never put it down and youll get bit. Find some big chunk rock and there will be fish there till you get your confidence up

Another reason I ask is because I spotted 3 bass in a cove and any time I put a lure in near them (crawdad plastic on jig) or dragged it by from beyond them, they high-tailed away. Not even the least bit curious. But I have never been on lake with pb's before and I didn't know if fish acclimate to constant traffic.

2 months of struggling? Theres a guy that guides on there and does a ton of videos. I found him on fb when I was thinking of fishing in that area, he does some fishing reports also. Seemed informative.

There are tons of fish scattered over really deep water chasing shad. I was sitting in 160ft of water this afternoon catching them in 10ft of water 100 yards off the bank. Sometimes they are just not where you are fishing. I'd go at daylight or as early as possible and fish bluff walls along the river channel with Shakey head worms, tx rigged baby brush hogs. I've caught alot on the small rage swimmer from strike king or even the small keitech. Both are 3.5-4" rigged on 1/4oz jig heads. Also catching them on rinky dinks(tail spinner) in the same areas. If you catch a few around a deep dock, keep fishing and come back to it. I've got one dock on the river channel that literally has hundreds suspended around it and cruising around, they are just finicky at times. You can catch 5-10 quick then the school gets weird. Keep at it and stay around the main creeks that dump into the main lake. Also, the big main lake marinas usually have fish suspended under the retaining walls. Parallel the wall with a swimbait or tail spinner.

Don't kick yourself too hard Clark. I live in Jonestown and Sandy creek is not the greatest fishing on Lake Travis. That said, I don't know how many TIMES you've been out in two months, but if you're striking out more than twice in a row, even in Sandy creek, that's not great. PM me and I'll be glad to take you out for a few hours one morning in Sandy. There is tons of bait out there right now and if you're not around some, you're probably not gonna catch much for sure. Emerald Point marina always has some good fish around it if you like fishing the Marinas. I like throwing a Zara Spook just before sunrise at first light and walk it fast. Good luck!

Put in at Jonestown this morning and fished from daylight to 10 and caught 14 or 15. First hour before the sun got up good they were smackin a Zara Spook. Like Jarrett said they were chasing bait, so you probably could have thrown just about any topwater and got some action. That stopped when it got light around 7:30ish. Went up to mid lake creeks and fished some big rocks in 22' - 25' with a jig but struck out. When they are on that jig it's awesome. Around 9 headed back tow ards Jonestown and graphed a new area ledge that runs out about 200 yards off a point. Found scattered fish, but lots of bait so chunked a Carolina rigged watermelon/red french fry and caught several more. By then the ocean liners and jet fleas were out in full force and I called it a day! All in all not too bad for 3 and a half hours of fishing. Biggest went about 2.5 pounds. Typical Lake Travis. Best 5 may have weighed 8.5 pounds.

2.5" smoke glitter grub on a 1/8 to 1/4oz lead head jig on 8-10# line with a spinning rod/reel. Parallel banks at 20'. Find underwater contours at 20' & parallel those also. Fish it fast in Marina slips. If that don't work, let it sink 20'-30'. & yoyo jig it. They'll hit it on the fall.
My daughters used to catch fish ALL day long like this when fishing with me. Mostly 1# up to 2#'s, but occasionally they'd pop a 4#+ fish. Sure beats getting skunked. Whites & stripers will hit that grub too. Those are super fun on that rig!!!
