It's a 4.5 inch shadalicious swimbait.

I was thinking a simple 5/0 keel weighted spring-lock hook like the one pictured.

I need it to be weedless (I fish in nasty weedy waters from the bank). So just kind of Texas rig it?

I'm worried that when the fish bites there wont be enough hook exposed to grab it, like its a very thick bait and takes up a lot of hook space. If that makes sense

6/0 owner flashy swimmer for shallower applications, 3/4 oz jig head for deeper. If using the hook you have there, you can always take a razor blade and slice down the center of the belly from the hook bend towards the head for better hook penetration, kind of like a fluke.

I would go with the 5/0 skin hook on top, with an 1/8 weight. For the thick grass your fishing in, also cut the belly a little as mentioned above.

That set up will work fine. I fish it like that whenever Im on a grass lake, ie Welsh, Brandy Branch ... I also have an underspin type of setup with a single willow leaf under the belly that works well. Make sure your bait is running true.

That will work just fine. If for some reason you are having hook up issues you could cut a belly slit in the bait. As long as you have a stiff enough rod though you should be good

That will work great, I like 1/4 oz which it looks like you have.

fyi there is a guy making the same type of hook on ebay they are a TON cheaper and a little finer wire hook I really like them. As well as he makes a 4/0 in 1/4 instead of being stuck with the 5 fuzion etc. He make them in all weights from 1/16-3/8 I think.

No need to slit a shadalisous(sp?). They are hollow and tear too easily as they are.

I use them a lot, I like the Trokar 4/0 weighted swim jig head. Carry a bottle of CA glue to keep the bait held to the head better.

Yeah ive had same issue, just found the slit solution..Suggest that if you comtinue having issues may need to downsize...Cutting should help, also if not in severe grass goto jighead..Get caught up in grass but better control and better hooksets..
