Huge Christmas parties and everyone shows up. All the women in the office get guided striper fishing trips. Get togethers at the comedy clubs. There is some kind of get together or party nearly every weekend. Life is good if you enjoy your work.

We like to get blasted at work and then have midget tossing contests.

Sounds like you've got a pretty rare situation these days. Must be a private company?

We took a Friday afternoon off and I spent a couple grand on the whole thing. Nobody at corporate batted an eye. However, if I had gifted each team member a chartered salmon trip for their personal use outside of work (even if the cost were somehow the same) it would have caused major waves at corporate. The former is viewed as a team activity and is perfectly fine, the latter would be viewed as a gift and would have tax implications and create all kinds of potential issues.

Chartered Salmon trips? You hiring?

Its like bowling mate. Its just for fun. You dont have to average 210 to enjoy bowling and you dont have to ever have swung a club to enjoy Topgolf. Its just a good time with some bruhs having a beer, some grub and playing a game. It aint that serious.

That said I think I solved this issue. You, my friend, must not like fun. In that case, you are right, stay home mate. Dont spoil it for others. Glad I could help!

work life / personal life.

Like church and state, should be separate.

I don't know. I think it's kind of lame for the boss to ask the employees to pick the event and a day - like he doesn't care enough to put any effort into it. Just plan something and let me know - that's weak. And how are you going to get all the employees to agree on something like that anyway? You're just asking for problems there. He should be doing the planning and drop it on the employees as a surprise. Be a boss, plan a great event, spend a little money, show some appreciation, give out some gift cards at the event. And do it during the workday - not after hours or weekends. Nobody wants that. For example, rent a suite at a Rangers game, charter a bus to take everyone, have a catered pre-game tailgate party. Bowling sucks and go-karts are for kids. Are y'all going to play putt-putt golf too? Maybe everyone could get a free soda.

Paintball is the money shot. Best thing ever for thee types of deals.

Unloading on those you work with can be cathartic. We used to do it all the time back in the day. I remember one time skirting the tapeline of the field to flank the yahoos charging up the center. I am sneaking up the side, bush by bush, to attempt to kind of get behind them. As I move up around the outside of this cedar tree, I'm totally surprised to see a dude on the other team crawling up the field on the inside of the tree. The same tree. It's a dude named Mark, who wasn't particularly liked by anyone. I find myself standing behind this fat dude, with his hairy butt crack hanging out, as he thinks he's sneaking up on everyone. He had no idea I was literally 3 feet behind him. I know protocol is to call for a surrender at that range before you unload, but I figured f it, and I think I had about 16 paintballs (4 pulls of the trigger on this gun) right up his a* before he could even open his mouth in a howl of bloody and bruised pain. That was probably 25 years ago and I still get a kick out of that memory.

Any recommendations on a paint ball place?

One of the guys just suggested a Rangers game. That would be fun too. I don't really care about baseball but I love tailgating.

We used to play at a place we just called Ted's, but I think it was technically called Paintball Games of Dallas. It was an AWESOME field down just east of 35 on Camp Wisdom Road. I'm not entirely sure if they are still in business or not.

I also know there is one at the upper end of Lake Grapevine, off 114 kind of close to Texas Motor Speedway. I have never been there myself, but I've heard it's a great place to play.

Yep. That pretty much covers it.

Ive managed a lot of people, and at multiple levels. If you gave me your honest feedback in a tactful way, at minimum, as a result, I would view you as someone I could trust. You never know if you can fully trust yes-people.

Im making multiple assumptions relative to how he is, how you all are as a team...etc. Given those assumptions, the above is what Id do.

Nice style! Communication(how) and trust are important traits for an effective team.
