Caught quite a few channels on some rocks (using shrimp) at Hubbard before the wind ran me off but most of them were just under keeper size. Does that mean the spawn is beginning or ending or just that I need to move? They did have swollen bellies so seems like they were in spawn mode. Kind of new to fishing the spawn so curious. Thanks!

I am catching tons of little cats as well. Probably 5-10 for each keeper.

The spawn time starts when water temps are in the lower 70s and not all spawn at the same time. Most of the time when the dinks show up the good ones have moved to greener pastures.

Good to know. I was thinking it would be in the middle of the spawn but looks like I may be late.

I hammered them tonight, had several in the four pound range. Lost count of how many fish since the action was so good. Even caught a crappie while I was trying.

Still catching decent ones in the shallows at Fork as of the end of last week. A few still had eggs.

One of the most distinguishable sights is a male channel cat when he's in spawn mode - flat shovel shaped head to go along w/a beat up body.

Thanks! A couple of the larger ones were a bit beat up. Going to head out tomorrow hopefully and see if they are better or worse.

Went out on Sunday and Monday for a couple of hours each day. Between the two days, we caught 25 keepers but had to wade through a looooot of throwbacks. It was fun times though. My daughter had a blast.
