Hit some of my favorite spots on Athens over the last few days. Fishing has been really good from the tube. Huge numbers of gills in the 5-7 inch range with a smattering of bigger fish tossed in to keep it interesting. As always I am using pieces of crawler on an unpainted 1/64th oz jig head and they can't leave it alone. As long as I keep it out of the bottom vegetation (which is heavier than normal this time of year) I am picking up fish. Any of the boat houses or overhanging trees seems to hold fish.

Still picking up the occasional crappie around the boat houses as well. Bobby Garland Baby Shad seem to be the ticket as long as it has some chartreuse on it they want it. Cast and let it just sink slowly. If they are around bet ready to be blasted. The crappie I have been taking have really been hitting hard. Nothing subtle about the way they smack the jig, just WHAM!

All fish were released to fight another day. Next time I plan on being on the lake is Weds. Mama wants a fish fry so a few need to end up in the cooler. Life is good here in East TX.

Cheers Y'all.

I use 2 different rigs, one is 5 1/2 foot and the other is 4 1/2; foot. The longer rig is spooled with 4 lb line and the shorter one is spooled with 2 lb line. Both wear open spool spinning reels. I am a fan of Shimano reels but as long as they have a smooth drag the brand isn't important. You can't really cast a lite rig with a normal overhand cast. The secret is to master the bow and arrow cast. A float tube lets me get right next to a boat house and the bow and arrow cast lets me put a bait way back under them where nobody else can fish, even a kayak because they sit too high.

It is a very effective method.
