I am interested in catching a spotted bass at a lake other than Lake Alan Henry. If you were after a spot in Texas where would you go and what would you fish with?

Palestine and Bob Sandlin have them by the pretty good. Hit steep Rocky banks with a crankbait. Not sure why anyone would seek them out though, they aren't big here like in CA

I am interested in catching a spotted bass at a lake other than Lake Alan Henry. If you were after a spot in Texas where would you go and what would you fish with? confused by the question, somewhat, because spots aren't hard to find generally. Grapevine has them in droves. You could catch a hundred spots there and your best 5 could go under 2.5 lbs (i have documented proof of this) but anyway - if i wanted to get into some decent sized spots, with the possibility of a smallie - i would hit lakes like Texoma. 2-3lb spots on texoma are not at all uncommon - probably on some of the rocky lakes like PK there are some good ones as well. Good luck.

You have one of the best lakes at Alan Henry to fish for spots. They are everywhere and some grow to a good size. You averae spot aat som of the other lakes will probably be around 1.5 lbs or so, less at Grapevine. Maybe more at Texoma. I PREFER to catch LMB, vs. spots, but I can put you on a ton of spots on AH. Not hard to do. You may be catching the dinker spoots like at Grapevine. There are some good spots in Alan Henry, though. Been there done that. Matter of fact, there is a school of spots on the dam at AH that averages over 3 lbs. They are hit or miss, but when you get onto them they are NICE spotted bass. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Contact me if ho want more info on them. OR, are you saying that you want to catch KY spoots and not the bigger version here at AH of the Alabama spot? Dunno.

Ray Roberts in the winter time has some big spots. Texoma has spots that are up the red river end of the lake that stay shallow all summer.
I hate photobucket.

Thad. Thanks for the reply. I am after a Kentucky spot not an Alabama spot so Alan Henry is out. Grapevine might be the place to start.

Thanks everybody for the posts so far. This is the kind of information I am looking for. I mainly fish for records and I want one for a spot. What bait is best?

Ted I liked your reply. The reason I don't run across spots much is that I normally don't target bass. I figured that all of you hard core bass anglers could give me some pointers lol.

Lake Hollbrook has quality spots in it, and they are easy to catch. Thats the lake Id choose.

Once they crank up the release gates on Grapevine or Ray Roberts the spotted bass really come to life... those suckers love that moving water!

You can easily catch 50 a day at Cypress Springs with a drop shot plum finesse worm on docks. All will be around 1lb however.
