Only if you are trying to achieve 100% accuracy rate.

Isn't the camera at a slight angle?

Against. If it was good enough for Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, and Avery it's good enough for me.

It would not be just a regular camera. Trackman is a very sophisticated radar system that also uses a camera that is really, really precise. Using technology developed to track missiles - its pretty incredible what type of data you get with it. I had access to one for a while but for golfing. That one was about the size of a laptop and cost $20,000+ Much different than someone marking a spot on TV where the ball crossed the plate from a video.

Several of you who are against it were pretty outspoken about the Saints no call.

I'm sure in the minority, but hate all "reviews", and hate any thought of a camera calling balls and strikes. A game played by athletes, officiated by trained officials.
Now the miss in the playoffs Saints vs Rams was horrendous, and don't get me started on Dez's catch vs Puckers, but the 5 minutes of review blah blah kills the game.
No camera for balls and strikes. The Dez call was properly made based on the rule at the time, I thought. Its been a long time since I read about that play, but thats how I remember it. The rule was horrible and has since been changed, but the rule, as written then, was applied correctly. Everyone knows it was a catch, but the rule was stupid.

No way! Umpires have always been a part of the game and tradition of America's Pastime.

Absolutely!! I watch a lot of baseball and the crappie job of plate umps really wears on me. I'll even admit that they do a good job for the most part, but too often they have a bad day. The cards vs. the Rangers on Sunday is a good example. That ump was terrible. And I Don't Care That He Was Terrible For Both Teams.
Then they kick the manager out for pointing out that the ump is doing a bad job.
I think every batter would be happy if they just called the box. Inside the box or touching the outlines - it's a strike. Nothing to argue about.

No way! Umpires have always been a part of the game and tradition of America's Pastime. So was segregation, but they righted that wrong. JR

These days, with the technology available, there are only a couple reasons to have refs or umps on the playing fields. 1) to try to break up the fights, and 2) to place the ball in (and that could be easily replaced). All calls can be made faster and more correctly from a booth.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Yes for accuracy and speeding up the game. Let it be an experiment and they would adopt it.
I don't see a lot of influence to some of the best pitchers but I do see it at times. I do see a significant number of umpires who have a different strike zone and another number of umpires that just keep making inconsistent calls.
They can do it with a high degree of accuracy. Well above anything an umpire, blocked by a catcher, can do.

They would probably have to put sensors near home plate to detect the balls/strikes. Those camera shots from the center field camera seem kinda skewed to me. Put an earpiece in the umpires ear that notifies him if it was a ball or strike and he immediately makes the call(no one knows but him). You'll still need a home plate ump to call foul tips and HBP's,those things are sometimes imperceptible to anyone but the ump.I'm old school(been playing since 1965)but would be fine with that set-up.
