Headed to the valley for the weekend and I hope to do some fishing on Sunday before I head back north. We're staying in Mcallen, but I'm thinking about taking 77 on my way back up to Dallas and doing some salt water fishing. I've never fished farther south on the coast than Bolivar, so I have no clue where to begin. I'd be grateful for some help finding decent a location that's not too far from the highway I can fish for a few hours.

Thanks!

You've got some decent wading on the south side of Port Mansfield. Lot's of wading water off South Padre, behind the convention center, and South bay south of Port Isabel.

Thank you! I’ll check those out. Much appreciated.

Would you recommend cut bait or shrimp this time of year?

Dunno, I don't use bait.

Way too many people down in Padre over the weekend to fish so I went back north. Ended up on Baffin and fished with some good folks there and had a blast.

thanks! ended up going with a guide last minute. I'll just say Capt. Schoonover at Baffin Bay Rod and Gun is legit. more pics along with a detailed write up is in the other inshore thread.
