Man O Man.... is it just me or does there seem to be an increased number of 12" to 30" gar in the coves and flooded areas the last couple of weeks.... are they spawning or just taking advantage of the food that has washed into the lake?

I was out there over the weekend. The backs of coves were just full of them. Fishing was still ok in those areas. But was amazed at how many there was, I am surprised there isn't people out there bow fishing.. Could not imagine what they would see at night under their halogens.

You could fill a boat bow fishing them during the day right now.
I hate photobucket.

They've been up in the shallows big time for 2 months now, more than I can ever remember seeing in any lake... and some MONSTERS too. They are the top predator in the lake, completely unchecked and always on the feed. No doubt in my mind it plays a roll in the low numbers of fish per acre, put in stupid amounts of time out there this year and can count the number of short fish I've caught for the entire year on one hand. Where are all the 10"-13" peanuts? Need to figure out a way to attract a national bow fishing tournament to Ray Bob and haul a few dump truck loads out of there.

Exactly... I’ve seen some up to 6’ in length chasing my baits back to the boat.

I don't get the whole "protect the gar" movement. The stupid fish is prehistoric. Pretty sure some bow wielding rednecks aren't going to cause the population to vanish. They definitely need to set up a bow fishing tournament. Problem then is that if all the bow fisherman spread the word about Roberts then every spring you'll be dodging bow fishing rigs along with bass boats. Double edged sword.

Every now and again you'll see an airboat, looks like a bow fishing rig heading towards the lake. Saw one yesterday. They look like guides too.

None of the gar I've seen are Alligator Gar, they're all long nose and spotted and there is no limit on those. Heck man, I'd welcome the bow fisherman.... would even buy em a potato mix burrito from the sportsman as a thank you.

100% of the Gar i seen was spotted gar. You would not have to worry about competing with the bow fishing boats, they mostly hunt at night.
