That money pooled by the homeowners would be better spent on a good legal team that would hold some people accountable and ask some hard questions. That's what they all pay taxes for.
The river authority probably has to submit an operating budget every year, some of which should be marked for maintenance/repairs. If that's the case they need to find out where the money went, and why there was money for a new office but not dam repair. GBRA claims that the dams would have to be repaired using money generated by the dams and since they have let the electrical generators deteriorate to the point that they produce no electricity, they say there is no money for repairs. After Lake Wood broke, they engineered the most expensive hydraulic operated gates they could buy. That is their excuse for not repairing Lake Wood, no money. I will bet they find the money to repair Dunlap.

Latest news I got was 2 to 10 years to repair the dam. The good part is they are already talking about a repair instead of restoring it to a stream. Is there enough water and pools left for the fish to survive?

Latest news I got was 2 to 10 years to repair the dam. The good part is they are already talking about a repair instead of restoring it to a stream. Is there enough water and pools left for the fish to survive? I would think that the original river channel should have some large pools of water within the original river banks. I'm saying this from seeing what Medina lake looks like when the water is at it's lowest levels, there are always going to be deeper pools. This would be a great opportunity for dredging out sections of the lake that are badly silted in. Just from pictures I've seen, the lake was supper shallow from years of silting.

That I see as a good thing as long as they enforce it. If they don't, I'm sure some property owners will break out the chain saws, strip away any and all the stumps and trees, and run their fences all the way to the waters edge and dare anyone to step foot across their perceived property. Kudos on them!

That I see as a good thing as long as they enforce it. Kudos on them! There are no trees or stumps in the area of the homes. Just 6 foot blood weeds. I wouldn't want that in my backyard either.

It's just a matter of time when another dam breaks. With all of the heavy rainfall we have been having over the past couple of years,it only added pressure to the river dams. Canyon has let out a lot of water over these years. Hurricane season is right around the corner! Something also to think about!

Bottom line These damns are an anachronism in respect to their original functionary purpose. Which was hydro power generation.
Their continued existence is going to have to come through repurposing them in order to generate a stream of funds to make them sustainable.

GBRA will have to make a decision, fix them or remove them. GBRA cannot simply abandon the dams. City of Gonzales is repairing their generators at a cost of something over 3 million dollars. It was going to cost over 5 million to remove the generators and seal the power run.
