I noticed that the bite is very different on the Kayak then from a boat or on the bank. I lost two early bites then i started setting the hook twice and caught my next two fish.
Still have not got a worm bite yet.

I have lost more fish on my yak than fishing from the bank. All of them have been by the boat, may need to get a net.

The only thing I do differently when bass fishing a Texas rig or jig from a yak is to set "longer".

Meaning, from a boat, I would reel in the slack and make a fast 90+ degree set. Most of the time I would set to the side vs straight up. I do the same from my yak if I'm standing. However, if I'm sitting... I will lean forward in my seat and fully extend my arms while slowly reeling in the slack... I then make a hard 120+ degree set. I still try to set to the side, but most of the time I need to set straight up.

In short... I start my set while leaning forward in my seat and finish the set leaning back in my seat with reel tight against my shoulder and the body of the rod well behind me. If I'm hooked up to a big girl... the rod tip will be bent straight above my head... If I didn't hook up, I try not to fall out of the yak from the explosive set... LOL

When fishing a crankbait I simply give it a short snap set because they usually hook themselves when they hit it.

When fishing a spinner I simply give it a hard long pull to make sure the single hook penetrates. Once again, they tend to hook themselves when hitting a spinner... you just need to make sure it makes full penetration because spinners tend to hook up in the top boney part of the mouth.

Circle hooks and tight drags fix bad hook sets with anything other than bass and a few salt species.

Sharper hooks, lower the rod tip and use your wrists and forearms with more snap.
I think the problem is trying to set the hook like you do on a boat or bank, but a kayak takes a little more finesse. Not the boat rocking overhead with the arms hookset.
Braided line has zero stretch! I've not missed many fish since switching to braided line.

The Crankbait was my go to this weekend. I was surprised at how I didn't feel the massive hit as normal. But all of a sudden things became heavy. Until i set the hook then the fighting would start.

I agree that you don't need to "rock the boat" in some/most situations. However, when hooking a large bass on Texas rig (or jig), you need to move a lot of lines fast... especially if its a long cast with mono and especially if you are in the grass (i'm old school and still use mono ). I would rather rock the boat from time to time than miss a fish and wonder what it might have been. LOL.

When crappie, sandbass or crankbait fishing... I agree 100%, a fast snap is all you need. Also, even with a Texas rig, if they hit near the boat... a fast snap will do the trick.

Was it a deep running crankbait? I get this too with deep crankbaits... I'm not sure if it's simply the water depth that dilutes the hit or if they bite a little more "lazy" in deeper water.

I was running 6-8 feet deep. I was only fishing in 12 FOW

8' is moderately deep so maybe the depth played into it a little (especially if you were making really long casts)... or maybe they were just being lazy that day?

Hooking up in a kayak is different, but in my experience, the feel of the bite is the same regardless if you are in a boat, bank or kayak.

The important thing is that you hooked up a couple nice fish. Not many people are able to say that in these flooded conditions!

I really felt good about that. I didn't expect to catch anything. I still have a lot to learn. that is why i ask questions. I thank each one of you for your input. I think this is what this forum is about.

Well went to Joe Pool this morning. Lost 4 at the boat. Caught about 7 and lost a half adozen that just came unbuckle
