Skip, has President Trump's tariff increased the price of your jig tying supplies? For instance a guy in my area tried to tell me feathers/neck hackle had gone up 400%. As far as I know the tariff is not even in effect yet. Anyway just asking in case I need to buy some feathers.
Thanks

Well not 400%, but yes last year my cost went up 40% on SW Neck Hackle and 60% on Marabou and is mostly due to the tariffs. Actually I kind of expect that last round of talks that ended with more tariffs may make them jump again, but we have to wait and see. It is making me thing of stocking up a little, but my cost has gone up so much that I am not sure spending that much money is worth it to me.

So all Neck Hackle and Marabou that I know of comes from China and overtime we raise tariffs and then they raise tariffs, our Neck Hackle which is one of the cheaper hackles out there get hit both ways I think?

There are feathers that are not impacted by these tariffs, but they are the higher quality fly tying hackle and the soft hackle kind of hackle raised here in the USA or in Europe.

Skip, thanks for the answer. I was pretty sure just from looking around at retail prices that their number was way high, I guess if you were tying everyday in store type setting it would really affect your prices. Again thanks

Bad thing is, like our health insurance and everything else, it will NEVER go back down to the same even if there is NO tariff.
I do agree that we need to do something about the severe imbalance.

Your welcome!

ACAMS your probably right, but I do hold out hope that it would come back a little just because this hackle is really one of the cheapest kinds out there and we can hope some thoughts of reasonable on both sides will eventually find some kind of deal that everyone can live with. Also we need to do something about the theft of people's music and other types of technology. They must pay for that stuff!

Still yes it stings and me being as small as I am will have to pick and choose what I can really offer. I mean buying pounds of SW Neck Hackle has become really costly now, it was not cheap before, but now adding in the increases of normal things since I first started buying pounds of Neck Hackle and it's very close to doubled in the last 12 years or so! So it hurts what I can do to help guys with their cost and also the cost on what I can tie a jig for. This is the first time I have to rethink things and their prices.

Sorry to be slow, but was out of my room yesterday afternoon and just back in there now. I just end up with a lot of things to do out of my tying room and that is where my computer is and the only place I get email. I don't do email on my phone because it doesn't keep everything in one place.
