The rain finally let up and I got to put the tube on Athens on Sun. Fishing was a little slow, maybe due to the rain. I also noticed that the lake seems to be weeding up earlier than usual. Places that are usually clear seem to have a lot of vegetation and I never see it this early in the year. Got a lot of dinks yesterday in the 4-5 inch range but I did manage a fair number of decent gills:

Most of the gills were suspended and either hit a baited jig head on the fall or went for a worm under a float and most of them were hanging around the shade. No redbreasts on Sun but I got 2 or 3 shellcrackers. I also got a small warmouth which was the first one I have ever taken out of Athens. Really pretty fish with dark colors. I used to catch a lot of them in a lake in VA when I was stationed there.

In addition to the sunfish I also hit a few of my crappie spots and found a few fish still shallow around the boat houses. Crappie hit Bobby G Baby Shad in Bluegrass. The crappie were all nice fish in the 12-13 inch range.

All fish were released to fight again on another day. Cheers Y'all.

Very nice Flags...Athens must be a heck-of-a good bluegill lake.
