I am looking at buying my stepson a fish finder / GPS for his first fishing boat. I currently run HDS units and really don’t want to break the bank on his entry level until. I was looking at the Hook 2 Tripleshot. My question is, can you use a Navionics chip to make sure he has the best maps or do you have to use the preloaded maps? The sonar/sidescan looks good. Any thoughts on a different unit if I am not fully understanding its capabilities?

You can use the Navionics card on the Hook2 units. Good luck!

Duffer, thanks for the info on the map card. Any reason this graph wouldn’t be a good starter graph? I want to get something that will work for him. Looks like this one does lots that the HDS does.

Frankly, I have the Hook2 7 up front and the Hook2 9 at the helm. I’m not a tournament fisherman so this works great for me with both DI and SI. Be sure and not get the “X” models - they do not have the ability to split screens. I think your stepson will be very happy with it.
